The H2Ohio Rivers Program is an expansion of Governor DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative. Part of the program is to reduce excessive road salt usage and encourage communities and jurisdictions responsible for winter road and surface maintenance to adopt salt best management practices. Applicants for these grants were able to apply for funding for either new salt equipment or storage facility construction to help alleviate costs to local governments across Ohio. In May 2024, Ohio EPA announced 31 communities received $1.6 million in funding during the first round, which had over 260 applicants. Recent water quality testing has shown that Ohio’s waterways are seeing an increase in salt concentrations, primarily due to the use of road salt. Salt can also cause nutrients and metals to detach from sediment, decreasing water quality. There are many drinking water facilities across the state that utilize river water for their source of drinking water. Water that is contaminated with road salt requires additional treatment. Additionally, road salt can cause issues with corrosion in pipes, valves, and other drinking water equipment. Road salt also corrodes infrastructure like bridges and shortens the life of paved surfaces. Ohio EPA is excited about Goshen Township’s commitment to reducing salt in their community and protecting Ohio’s waterways. Dear Residents, The Village of Mechanicsburg would like to update the residents on the upcoming road work scheduled for 2025. State Rt 4, State Rt 29, and State Rt 559 will be completely resurfaced within the Village limits by ODOT starting in April 2025 (weather permitting). If any property owners within the Village of Mechanicsburg are planning any work related to curb restoration or driveway approaches, the Village of Mechanicsburg encourages residents to complete these projects before the new asphalt is installed. Village specs for curbs, gutters, and sidewalks are below. Thanks again for all your cooperation during this next phase of construction. ![]()

The village of Mechanicsburg will have several streets resurfaced this week. Due to weather and Covid both projects, after cancellations, have converged and will begin Wednesday, September 29th early in the morning.
First project is Lynn, School and East Race St. This Micro surfacing will cause all three streets to be completely shut down. Process will require a curing time of 4-6 hours after application. While we realize that this will be an inconvenience for some we ask for your patience. Use the alleys to get as close to your residence as possible. Our Street Department has distributed flyers and posted no parking signs in the area. Second project is on the west side of town. This is a chip/tar resurfacing project. There is no street parking in that area and will not cause as much disruption as the east side project. Once the tar is laid and the stone is down it can be immediately used. We ask that you use caution around the workers and equipment for your safety and theirs. There will be flaggers in that area. Please be kind to all the workers and use caution in the work areas. We are short staffed due to illness and will do our very best to make sure this all goes smoothly. There will be a Street and Utility meeting at the Municipal Building on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 5pm.
