Glitch Causes Incorrect Water Bills; Corrected Bills Will Be Sent

Dear Residents,

There was a glitch in the computer system resulting in some residents receiving an incorrect Water bill balance. New bills will be sent out today with the corrected amount due. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Village of Mechanicsburg Electric and Natural Gas Aggregation

9/26/24 UPDATE: The aggregation will NOT be on the ballot this November.

Village Council has placed Electric and Natural Gas Aggregation on the November 5th, 2024 ballot
- All residents in the incorporated areas of Mechanicsburg will vote on aggregation

A YES vote would allow for the Village to use purchasing power to secure a discount for residents on these commodities
- Historical savings average around $100 per year
- All AES and CenterPoint Gas customers would be automatically enrolled (unless in current 3rd party supply agreement)
- NO FEE to opt-out of aggregation program any time

Eligibility
- All AES and CenterPoint customers are eligible to participate
  - If customer is in current agreement, they will not be included, but can join after current deal expires

There are 34 Ohio counties currently participating in the Aggregation Program

Ballot Language

Nat Gas
- Shall the Village of Mechanicsburg have the authority to aggregate the retail natural gas customers located in the Village, and for that purpose, enter into services agreements to facilitate for those customers the sale and purchase of natural gas, conversion to the aggregation program will occur automatically unless the customers choose to opt out of the program.
Electric
- Shall the Village of MECHANICSBURG have the authority to aggregate the retail electric customers located in the Village, and for that purpose, enter into services agreements to facilitate for those customers the sale and purchase of electricity, conversion to the aggregation program will occur automatically unless the customers choose to opt out of the program.

The Ohio Development Services Agency is now distributing $100 million in federal funding to help low-income Ohioans who do not own their own home: pay their rent, water, sewer, wastewater, electric, gas, oil and/or trash removal bills.

The state of Ohio, working with local Community Action Agencies, will help eligible Ohioans on rent, mortgage, and water and/or sewer utility bills catch up on past payments back to March 13, 2020, and provide additional assistance through December 31, 2021.

Eligible Ohio households must:

Be at or below 80% of their county’s Area Median Income (varies by county and size of household);
Have experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19; and
Demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

The funding, which was approved by the Ohio Controlling Board for distribution, will be divided among Ohio’s 47 Community Action Agencies. Ohioans can apply for assistance by contacting their local Community Action Agency.
