Mechanicsburg Leaf Collection for Fall 2019

Mechanicsburg’s Leaf Policy
The Village of Mechanicsburg no longer picks up loose leaf piles. Know your options! Read on for information on bagging, mulch mowing and transporting.

Property owners have 3 options:

Bag for weekly pick-up - Collect your fall leaves in biodegradable paper yard waste bags and place at the curb by 7am for pick up on Monday. (Bags may be purchased at Hardware stores and Garden Centers.) Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected.
Mulch Mow Leaves on Site - Mulch mowing is the environmentally-friendly alternative that provides healthy nutrients for lawns and garden beds.
Transport - Bring leaves to the Village leaf compost located on Railroad St, Monday-Friday 8am-3pm and 8am-noon Saturdays. Contractors working for Village residents should haul loose leaves or bags to Village compost at no charge.

Why did the Village adopt this new policy?
There are a number of reasons, including:

Safety: Large piles of leaves on roadways create traffic and flooding hazards, obstruct sidewalks and create slippery surfaces.
Environment: Keeping leaves out of the storm drains, and creeks keeps our water resources healthier.
Efficiency: Bagged collection is a quicker, more efficient operation, allowing for frequent collection.
Cleanliness: Bulk collection leaves debris throughout the Village for extended periods of time.
Savings: Bagging saves our limited resources for additional Village priorities.

ORDINANCE 16-06 PROHIBITING DISPOSAL OF LEAVES AND OTHER WASTE MATTER INTO STORM SEWERS WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF MECHANICSBURG, OHIO will be enforced.

The Mechanicsburg Lion’s Club will hold it’s traditional “Meet the Candidates Night” at the Mechanicsburg Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 29th at 7pm. Local candidates for Mayor, Village Council, Mechanicsburg School Board, Goshen Township Trustee and Fire Department Levy, Library Levy and Maple Grove Cemetery will be on the Agenda.
