The Village of Mechanicsburg will be conducting regular preventative maintenance on our water tower beginning June 1, 2020. This maintenance is to preserve the exterior coating of the tower and cleaning and coating the inside of the tank. It will require the Village to drain the tower while the maintenance is being done. This is to prevent condensation on the exterior, cleaning and painting the interior, and will be dependent on weather and temperature variances. The actual work under ideal conditions would require about 5-7 days to complete for both the inside and outside. However we are scheduling up to 4-5 weeks to complete the work. We will bring in a temporary tank for water storage.
Due to the size of the temporary tank we are requiring Mandatory Water Conservation while the main storage tank is offline. The following water uses are considered nonessential and are prohibited during this emergency. Prohibited Water Uses:

The Village of Mechanicsburg will be flushing fire hydrants the weeks of April 6-10 and April 19-23, weather permitting, between 8am and 3pm.
Flushing is done to remove sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution pipes. Your water is safe to drink. Occasionally, water becomes discolored after hydrant flushing. If this happens, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water clears. If it doesn't clear the first time, wait a few minutes and run the water again. You should avoid washing clothes until the water clears. Over the next few weeks there will be a crew out working in the Village to collect data on the Water and Sewer Assets around the Village. Our Maintenance Supervisor will be assisting with the Collection. They will be using GIS equipment to mark the location of our assets. There may be times that the equipment is located on your property and would require them walking onto you’re property. The information gathered will help us respond to any disturbance, replacement or repair in our system in the future. Please cooperate with this process.
