Mechanicsburg is a great small community to live in. The Village Government works hard to provide all the services that our residents need. You can help us by taking pride in your property, being a good neighbor and volunteering in our various civic organizations. Here are some tips and information to make our town a better place to live, work, and play.
All properties within the Village should be neat and well maintained. All buildings should be maintained in a clean and safe manner.
New construction and any remodeling require a building permit from both the Zoning Department and the Champaign County Building Regulations Department. Property owners are required to obtain a permit for fences and sheds from the Zoning Department.
All yards and lots should be free of overgrown grass, weeds, shrubs, debris, or other material which may become unsightly or could cause fire health and/or safety hazards. Property Owners will be notified in the event that noxious weeds and/or grass reach the height of 12” and will be advised of a violation of the Zoning Ordinance 06-08 Section 591 which pertains to such maintenance. Violators will be notified once annually and advised they are subject to citation on the present as well as subsequent violations.
All items, including debris, old furniture, building material, appliances, old lawnmowers, vehicle parts, junk vehicles etc. should be stored in an enclosed structure or removed from the property. (Ordinance 12-05)
We have an Annual Community Clean-up in late April that is free to all residents. We bring in dumpsters to dispose of household trash. (furniture, appliances, etc.) Tires can be disposed at the County Fairgrounds in early October.
Residents should contact the Utility Office at Village Hall or call (937) 834-3187 Ext. 1 for water and sewer. These services are billed together on the 1st of each month with a payment due on the 15th of each month with a 10% penalty is applied for nonpayment. Payments of checks or cash are accepted at the Utility Office in Village Hall and the drop box below the window.
